The Mitchell Auto Group closes the 2017 year with support for the reading advocacy organization, Read to a Child. This exceptional group is a national literacy and mentoring non-profit that inspires caring adults to read aloud regularly to underserved children to create better opportunities for the child’s future.
Research shows that reading aloud to children is the single most important activity for eventual success in reading, a key factor for success in school, work, and life. When an adult reads aloud to a child, both parties have a joyful, rewarding experience that instills a love of reading, improves literacy skills, and enhances a child’s self-confidence. Read to a Child’s Lunchtime Reading Program utilizes more than 1,700 volunteer mentors from over 125 socially-minded organizations who read one-on-one to more than 1,300 at-risk elementary school students in Greater Hartford, Detroit, Boston, Los Angeles and Miami.

The entire Mitchell Auto Group is honored and privileged to show our support for the SpiritHorse Therapeutic Riding Center of Canton, Inc., and the incredible work they put in — entirely voluntary — for individuals with special needs in our region, through specialized equestrian riding lessons and care.
It is an exceptional program, an amazing group of people, and we are so thrilled to be supporters and neighbors of this organization.
One of HEA’s most vibrant programs is the Healthy Eyes-Healthy Families program that is implemented in Hartford, Fairfield and New Haven counties. Over the last two years HEA vision screened 1,278 individuals in Hartford County, thanks in part to funding from Mitchell Auto Cares.
Mitchell’s continued support has been invaluable in HEA’s ability to provide free vision screenings and follow-up services in Hartford. This year, Mitchell Auto Cares has designated HEA to be their July Charity of the Month. A $1,500 donation will be made to the Campaign to Save Sight.

The Connecticut Children’s Medical Center seeks to equip their facilities with the Angel Eye NICU Camera System. This technology provides parents of critically ill newborns or premature newborns with a way to bond with their babies even when they are not able to be physically present in the Natal Intensive Care Unit.
In support of this effort the Mitchell Auto Group is purchasing an Angel Eye camera for use by the medical center and the thousands of families their NICU staff serves each year.
